The big teddy bear Pudsey Bear was introduced to the Children In Need charity in 1985. The big teddy bear which was originally brown, was the creation of Yorkshire born Joanna Ball, naming him Pudsey after the town where she had been born. The following year Pudsey had changed to the more familiar yellow bear with the spotty eye patch that we all recognise and love today.
Pudsey items including plush bears, mugs and clothing, have sold in their millions raising funds for countless children's charity's throughout the UK.. There have been BBC appeals to help children since 1927 starting on radio, then the first appeal on television in 1955. 1980 had seen the first BBC Telethon hosted by Terry Wogan , Sue Lawley and Ester Rantzen. It automatically appealed to the nations hearts as they saw the donations rise significantly and reach the million pound mark encouraging more and more people to act.
The Official BBC Children In Need song for 2009 which featured Pudsey Bear.
Last year was the 30th BBC Children in Need Appeal and a record breaking £39 million was raised. The registered charity which raises money throughout the year holds its annual telethon on Friday 19th November. A link has been provided to view the official donation web page. Please give as much as you can to this worthwhile children's charity http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/donate/

Here are some useful tips for making your own Teddy Bear Basket.
- When choosing your basket think about the depth and width. Make sure it is high enough that nothing will fall out. Will you require a handle.
- You will need a filling like shredded paper. This could be in a neutral colour or red for example for Valentine. Make sure to stuff it well. It will help to hold everything in place and stop smaller items from sinking out of sight.
- Place your teddy bear and accessories into the basket. Play around with them until you get your desired affect.
- You will need a piece of cellophane large enough to wrap round the entire basket tying at the top. This can be done with a staple gun.
- You will need at least two ribbons. One to be wrapped round the tied point of cellophane. Hanging down the front of the basket. Once again, staple the point where they cross. With the other ribbon make a folding bow. Staple onto the first ribbon in front of the stapled area.
- Here you have your finished Teddy Bear Basket which you can personalise with a small gift card.
